Intersection of family and criminal law
Many of the cases we deal with sit at the intersection of family and criminal law. Allegations of domestic abuse, coercive control and related offences are frequently reported to the police alongside ongoing family proceedings. We are experienced in navigating this overlap, ensuring that your position is protected across both jurisdictions and that the approach taken
in one forum does not undermine the other.
We work closely with the police on our clients’ behalf, assisting with the reporting of offences, preparation of MG11 witness statements, collation of evidence and ongoing liaison throughout the investigation and any subsequent prosecution. We also provide support throughout the criminal process, including trial preparation, ensuring that you are fully advised and supported at each stage.
Have you been wrongly accused?
Have you been wrongly arrested or prosecuted and treated as the perpetrator when in fact you are the victim of abuse? We are experienced in challenging such cases, providing robust criminal defence to ensure that the full context is properly understood and that your position is effectively advanced. Our work in this area is informed by a deep understanding of domestic abuse dynamics and the evidential challenges that can arise.
We have achieved successful outcomes in cases involving parallel criminal and family proceedings, including securing appropriate findings in the Family Court while supporting clients through police investigations and criminal trials.
This work is led by Ms Manveet Chhina, who brings over a decade of specialist criminal law experience. Her expertise strengthens our ability to provide a joined-up approach in cases where criminal and family issues overlap, ensuring that clients receive effective and robust representation.
