Separation, Divorce and Financial Claims

We advise on all aspects of relationship breakdown, from the initial decision to separate through to final resolution. This includes divorce and the dissolution of civil partnerships, as well as judicial separation for those who do not wish to formally end the marriage.

We also advise on protective steps that can be taken before or during a relationship, including pre-nuptial and post-nuptial agreements, ensuring that financial arrangements are clearly defined and, where possible, safeguarded.

Our Approach

Every separation is different. Our role is to guide you through the process with clarity, a trauma-informed approach and careful judgement. We will identify the most effective route forward, keep matters under close strategic review and ensure that you remain informed and in control at each stage. While many cases resolve without the need for court intervention, we are equally prepared to litigate where required. In those circumstances, we act with determination and focus, advancing your case with the strength and expertise needed to secure the best possible outcome.

Financial matters and asset protection

Financial issues are often the most complex aspect of separation. We provide detailed advice on financial claims arising from divorce or dissolution, including the division of assets, income provision and long-term financial security.

Dr Charlotte Proudman has significant expertise in cases where domestic abuse is raised as conduct within financial remedy proceedings, and has provided valuable input to the Law Commission of England and Wales following its consultation on proposed reforms to the law governing conduct and financial relief (Scoping Report on Financial Remedies on Divorce and Dissolution on 18 December 2024).

Our work frequently involves high-value and intricate asset structures, including business interests, pensions, international property and non-traditional assets such as cryptocurrency. We are also experienced in identifying and addressing concerns around non-disclosure or hidden assets.
