Our very first case at Proudmans concluded with a powerful, and protective outcome for Leyla* and her child. Dr Charlotte Proudman represented Leyla at a final hearing in a case involving rape, domestic abuse, and coercive and controlling behaviour. Proudmans secured exceptional final orders that restrict the father’s parental responsibility, prohibit all direct and indirect contact, impose a section 91(14) bar, and authorise disclosure of documents to the police.
Leyla’s solicitor was Ms Manveet Chhina who worked side by side with Leyla.
Leyla chose to move to Proudmans when we first opened our doors, after feeling deeply unhappy with her previous representation. She described having to “fight with them” rather than feeling they were on her side. She attended Dr Proudman’s book launch on 1 May 2025 and decided to instruct her then. However, Leyla was keen to move to Proudmans to ensure continuity both behind the scenes and in court.
Leyla said that working with a law firm that truly understands the realities of abuse and is willing to go the extra mile changed everything for her and her child.
Delighted with the outcome, Dr Proudman said: “I couldn’t be happier for Leyla and her child as they move on with their lives to happier times, and her child can have a safe and worry-free childhood. This is why we do the work we do. Special thanks to Leyla for Ted’s new dog collar and the lovely hand warmers for those frosty mornings.”
Ms Chhina said: “This case shows the difference it makes when survivors are properly heard, believed and robustly represented. Securing safety and finality for Leyla and her child was paramount, and I am proud of the outcome we achieved together at Proudmans.”
