Our founder, Dr Charlotte Proudman travelled to Ireland last week at the invitation of Women’s Aid, Alliance of Birth Mothers, and Professor Stephanie Holt of Trinity College Dublin, to speak about the systemic failures of the Irish family courts. Drawing on He Said, She Said and her work leading Proudmans, she exposed the entrenched culture of disbelief, the silencing of women, and the spread of pseudoscience: parental alienation, unregulated experts, and practices that routinely endanger children.
Charlotte announced the launch of Proudmans to Irish organisations, campaigners, and policymakers, demonstrating why specialist, trauma-informed law firms are urgently needed to lead the way in this field. Our goal is not only to set precedents in England and Wales, but to support systemic reform internationally. In recent months, Charlotte has been contacted by mothers across Ireland and worldwide describing disastrous family court experiences, many echoing the same patterns of harm.
On day two, Charlotte addressed politicians, calling for immediate action. She warned that what is unfolding in the Irish family courts is the greatest scandal since the Magdalene Laundries, a national crisis that has become a ticking time bomb. A generation of children are being denied a childhood, many simply waiting to turn 18 so they can escape unsafe court-ordered contact or residence with a dangerous parent.
The Irish Daily Mail covered Charlotte’s two-day visit extensively last weekend, recognising the gravity of the crisis and the scale of reform needed. Read more here: https://www.pressreader.com/uk/the-irish-mail-on-sunday/20251116/281749865629886
